The organization Draw the Line Minnesota has announced a commission featuring people from multiple political parties that will work on redistricting issues on a non-partisan basis.
Draw the Line Minnesota is a joint effort by groups including the League of Minnesota Voters, the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, and the Midwest Democracy Network. The effort is an attempt to reduce partisanship and increase transparency in the redistricting process.
The 15-member commission this month will collect testimony from citizens around the state and create maps to be shared with the judicial redistricting panel.
The members include:
Lori Berg, program officer for Minnesota Community Foundation and The Saint Paul Foundation
Bruce Corrie, dean of the College of Business and Organizational Leadership at Concordia University
Sally Fineday, executive director of Native Vote Alliance of Minnesota
Kathi Hemken, mayor of New Hope
Kent Kaiser, communications director to former Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer
Lorna LaGue, special projects director for the White Earth Band of Ojibwe
Matt Lewis, communications director for the Independence Party of Minnesota
Elda Macias, corporate marketing professional
Anne Mason, assistant director of communications at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota
Sedric McClure, multicultural counselor at Macalester College.
Kenya McKnight, operations director of the Northside Economic Opportunity Network
Carl Rosen, retired social worker
Karen Saxe, chair of the math, statistics and computer science department at Macalester College
T. Scott Uzzle, attorney
Candi Walz, political science professor at Century College
