Former state Sen. Dan Skogen — who was ousted by freshman Republican Sen. Gretchen Hoffman last fall — says he will seek the DFL endorsement in 2012 to return to the upper chamber.
Skogen announced his plans to run last week, according to a story in the Fergus Falls Daily Journal, saying he “enjoyed” his time in the Senate and wants to continue to work on critical areas like “job creation, education, agriculture and the environment.”
“Public service is not easy work, but the process is important and I look forward to bringing my common sense approach of getting things done back to the Senate for the people of this area,” Skogen told the paper.
Skogken was elected in the DFL wave of 2006 in Senate District 10, which covers all of Otter Tail and Wadena Counties. Last fall he was defeated by Hoffman, a registered nurse who previously owned a small yarn shop.
Hoffman’s first session at the Capitol was not without controversy. The freshman Republican sparked an ethics complaint and review after she tweeted about another senator during a health and human services debate. The ethics panel ultimately ruled that Hoffman had to apologize for her actions.
