One of the mainstays of food culture in the Twin Cities since 1853 has been the St. Paul Farmers Market. The market was a highlight of many a weekend back in the 1950s and 1960s when Jack Gerten, then a child, would sell vegetables and flowers with his parents at a location on Jackson Street now taken up by the Embassy Suites.
