Gov. Mark Dayton today sent a letter to Republican legislative leaders in which he outlined some conditions for entering into negotiations on the state budget.
“I will not favorably consider a single budget bill without knowing its relationship to a complete and balanced budget solution,” Dayton wrote.
Dayton said he will begin “formal negotiations” with Republican legislative leaders after they have passed their conference reports.
Dayton took issue with House Speaker Kurt Zellers’ reported remarks that discredit fiscal notes prepared by the Minnesota Department of Management and Budget. Dayton said he’s instructed his finance and revenue agency officials to work with legislative analysts to assemble “honest, unbiased and impartial analyses” of all budget bills.
Dayton said he won’t begin final negotiations with Republic legislative leaders until he has assurances that they will accede to fiscal projections from the agencies.
