The Republicans’ budget resolution passed the House Ways and Means Committee Monday over the objection of Rep. Mark Buesgens, R-Jordan.
Buesgens bucked his party because he doesn’t approve of the $34 billion budget target. The target handed down by House GOP leadership reflects the amount of revenue in the recent February forecast, which clocked in at a larger amount than the previous forecast. Buesgens also objected because the targets don’t rebuild the state’s battered budget reserves.
“One is, it spends too much. The other is I think it is short-sighted in its fiscal responsibility by putting no money into the budget reserve or cash-flow accounts,” Buesgens said.
