DFL state House candidate Carol Lewis conceded defeat to Republican King Banaian in an open seat in the St. Cloud area that was decided by a mere 10 votes. Banaian will take the seat being vacated by DFLer Larry Haws.
Although the election took place on Nov. 2, the razor-thin margin of victory triggered an automatic recount that was undertaken today. Lewis told the St. Cloud Times that she expected Banaian’s lead to slim to seven or eight votes in the recount. But she said didn’t expect the recount would change the outcome.
There are two other legislative races that are being recounted: Districts 27A and 25B. In both cases, a Republican defeated a DFL incumbent.
