Minnesota political funds can make unlimited contributions to the recount operations of candidates Tom Emmer and Mark Dayton, the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board ruled on Wednesday. The board held an emergency meeting to discuss the issue after a request from Dayton’s campaign for legal guidance.

The ruling means that political parties and campaigns are explicitly permitted to provide financial assistance to the recount teams. There are no disclosure requirements or limits on contributions to the recount funds. However, political funds that are regulated by the state campaign finance agency must disclose their contributions.
