Former Republican U.S. Sen. Rod Grams, who was ousted by DFL gubernatorial candidate Mark Dayton in 2000, will serve as interim chief of staff for 8th Congressional District Representative-elect Chip Cravaack.
Cravaack is bringing in Grams to help set up their offices over the next several months during the transition, after Cravaack’s stunning defeat of 18-term DFL incumbent Rep. Jim Oberstar last week.
Cravaack spokesman Kyler Nerison told the Star Tribune’s Hot Dish blog that they are searching for a permenent chief of staff to be in place by Jan. 3.
Grams ran an unsuccessful bid against Oberstar in 2006. He kept in frequent contact with Cravaack during the campaign, Hot Dish reported.
