2 new polls due out tomorrow

Jake Grovum//October 27, 2010

Two polls from KSTP/SurveyUSA and Minnesota Public Radio/Humphrey Institute of the governor’s race are due out tomorrow, and they provide perhaps the final benchmark numbers for each of the gubernatorial candidates heading into Tuesday’s election.

The last KSTP poll, released Oct. 15, showed DFLer Mark Dayton with a five point lead, at 42 percent, over his Republican opponent Tom Emmer, who had 37 percent support. The Independence Party’s Tom Horner had 14 percent. In the last MPR/Humphrey poll, released Sept. 29, Dayton had 38 percent, Emmer had 27 percent and Horner had 16.

The New York Times’ resident election guru, Nate Silver, has rated SurveyUSA as the third-best pollster in the country, while the Humphrey Institute is ranked near the bottom.

MPR will release its poll numbers Thursday morning. KSTP is expected to release them Thursday night.
