Former pro wrestler and Independence Party Gov. Jesse Ventura endorsed IP candidate Tom Horner Friday, encouraging Minnesotans to “shock the world again.”
In an interview with the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Ventura said voters should go for Horner to break from the two major parties.
“If you elect a Democrat or Republican, you’re just going along with the status quo, business as usual,” Ventura told the paper.
In an email to the Pioneer Press, Horner campaign spokesman Matt Lewis said they did not know the endorsement was coming. “We’ve had some good conversations with him and will continue to. He hasn’t done anything formal yet,” Lewis wrote.
Former Independence Party Sen. Dean Barkley told a PIM staffer this week that the Horner campaign was working on a television ad with the former governor.
Horner has been endorsed by former Republican governors Arne Carlson and Al Quie.
