The National Republican Congressional Committee has upgraded its view of the race for Minnesota’s seventh district, where many election analysts have said 10-term Democratic incumbent Rep. Collin Peterson is a shoo-in.

The NRCC elevated Peterson’s Republican challenger, Lee Byberg, to “On the Radar” in its “Young Guns” program. That puts Byberg on the lowest level of the program, which lends national support to GOP congressional candidates.

State Rep. Randy Demmer, who is going after DFL incumbent U.S. Rep. Tim Walz‘s seat in the first district, is the only other Minnesota GOPer ranked in the “Young Guns” program.

Peterson won the district with 72 percent of the vote in 2008.
