GOP congressional candidate Randy Demmer got a boost this morning from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).
Demmer, a state representative from Hayfield who is challenging 1st CD Democratic incumbent Tim Walz this November, was elevated to the top cadre of the NRCC’s three-tiered Young Guns. He had ascended to the middle level in July.
“Randy Demmer has proven that he’s ready to take on incumbent Tim Walz, an out-of-touch Democrat who has blindly supported his party’s failed agenda of job-killing policies and reckless spending,” said Texas Congressman and NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions.
The Young Guns program started during the 2007-2008 election cycle and is the NRCC’s operation for promoting candidates who are challenging Democratic incumbents or running for open seats.
The program is much like the Democratic National Congressional Committee’s Red-to-Blue program. Tarryl Clark, a St. Cloud Democrat who is challenging Republican Michele Bachmann in the 6th Congressional District, was chosen for Red-to-Blue.
