Two books examining the neverending 2008 U.S. Senate contest between Al Franken and Norm Coleman were slated to be published in the coming weeks. But Wy Spano‘s recount account apparently will never make it to bookstores.

The Pioneer Press reports that Spano, director of the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Center for Advocacy & Political Leadership and a founding editor of Politics in Minnesota, pulled the book over “creative differences.” Review copies of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Senate” had already been sent out by the publisher, Zenith Press/Quayside Publishing Group. (Spano didn’t immediately return a call from PIM seeking comment.)

The literary kerfuffle clears the recount field for MinnPost’s Jay Weiner. His account of the electoral saga, “This is Not Florida: How Al Franken Won the Minnesota Senate Recount,” is slated be published by the University of Minnesota Press next month.
