In an unprecedented move, the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce’s political action committee today endorsed both the DFL and Republican candidates running in eastern Twin Cities District 56. Sen. Kathy Saltzman, DFL-Woodbury, and newspaper publisher Ted Lillie both got the chamber’s nod.

“The voters are extraordinarily fortunate to have such excellent pro-business candidates seeking to represent them in the Minnesota, each with a proven track record of leading on policies that will create jobs in Minnesota,” said Scott Thiss, chairman of the Minnesota Chamber Leadership Fund PAC.

The Chamber typically supports Republicans. For their part, Republicans are gunning to defeat Saltzman, a first-term senator who in 2006 unseated conservative Republican Sen. Brian LeClair by a little more than 5 percentage points. Saltzman, however, has carried business-friendly legislation like offering tax credits for so-called angel investors.

“She has been a leader within the Senate during her term. Her leadership on policies that create jobs is among the best in the Legislature. She’s also been a strong advocate for improving the performance of the K-12 education system,” Thiss said.

Regarding Lillie:

“He is exactly the kind of person we need more of in the Legislature. He’s a business owner and community leader who has consistently shown that he is willing to work incredibly hard to ensure that Minnesota’s economic climate improves and that our state succeeds as a result.”
