Rudy Takala, a 21-year-old Tea Party activist who recently lost a Republican primary battle in Pine County, is behind a new political action fund to support conservative lawmakers.

Simply Right Conservatives, started this week, lists Dick Kazel as chair and David Ostenson and Connie Takala as treasurers. But Connie said it’s Rudy, her son, who is behind the effort.

They have yet to raise any money, but Connie said when they do, they plan to back candidates who are “constitutional conservatives.”

“Simply Right has been holding meetings for over a year now, but it’s been a casual gathering of conservatives or candidates, or just people who are working for the conservative cause,” Connie said. “It’s been a chance to get together and know we are not alone, and now it’s turned into a PAC group in order to further help conservatives.”

Takala lost the GOP primary in central Minnesota District 8B to Mora Mayor Roger Crawford by more than 10 percentage points. Crawford will face incumbent Rep. Tim Faust, DFL-Mora, in November.
