If the level of political activity on St. Paul’s East Side is any indication, voter turnout in Senate District 67 will not be low. At intersections all over the district, there are people holding signs promoting Cha Yang, Foung Hawj and other challengers in the nine-candidate DFL field. The phone bank operation in Chai Lee's garage

Jay Xiong, co-campaign manager for Chai Lee, stated that they have more than 100 people door-knocking and making phone calls on the candidate’s behalf. “To have four Hmong Americans, two African Americans, an Indian American, that speaks to how engaged we are in the political process,” said Xiong. “I’m just happy we have so many people involved.”

Vang Lor’s field operation is located in Hope Lutheran Church. He’s also got a phone-bank operation based out of TakeAction Minnesota’s offices. “Volunteers are out door-knocking constantly,” he said this afternoon. “We’re going to be out there until eight o’clock.”

Candidate Avi Viswnathan estimated that his supporters will make contact with more than 1,000 people by the time the polls close. Volunteers are working out of his home in the Dayton’s Bluff neighborhood.
