John Choi is garnering support from some unlikely individuals in his race for Ramsey County Attorney. Among the backers that the DFL-endorsed candidate announced today: Fourth Congressional District GOP chair Bev Aplikowski and former state Republican party chair Chris Georgacas. In addition, Fritz Knaak, a former GOP state Senator who represented Norm Coleman in the 2008 U.S. Senate recount, is supporting Choi’s candidacy.

“The office of County Attorney is very simply about maintaining public safety,” said Georgacas in a statement. “John Choi has demonstrated a commitment to public safety, justice, and creative solutions in crime prevention.”

Other high profile Choi supporters announced today: former U.S. attorneys Tom Heffelfinger and David Lillehaug, and retiring Anoka County Attorney Bob Johnson.

Choi faces two other opponents — Roseville City Council member Tammy Pust and former assistant attorney general David Schultz — in the nonpartisan contest.
