The new KSTP/SurveyUSA poll numbers out today show Mark Dayton ahead of Matt Entenza and Margaret Anderson Kelliher in the DFL primary battle.

Dayton, a former Democratic U.S. senator, leads Kelliher in western Minnesota and among seniors. They are tied in the Twin Cities.

The poll asked 500 respondents that are likely to vote in the DFL primary who they would vote for if the primary were held today. The poll surveyed a total 2,250 Minnesotans from June 14 to June 16.

Dayton had a 13 percent lead over Kelliher and a 17 percent lead over Entenza. Kelliher is the state House speaker and Entenza is the former House minority leader.

Entenza, who has spent lavishly on television ads since the DFL endorsing convention in April, is gaining on Kelliher in the poll. The DFL primary is Aug. 10.

As far as the general election goes, the poll looks at three possible matchups. The poll shows GOP-endorsed candidate Tom Emmer slipping. Dayton has a slight 38-percent to 35-percent lead over Emmer in the general.

In a couple of the general election match-ups, Independence Party-endorsed candidate Tom Horner snags 12 percent.
