Judges, staff serve lunch at Dorothy Day Center

Past and present Minnesota Supreme Court justices and Court of Appeals judges, as well as law clerks and court staff, spent an afternoon serving lunch to hundreds of people at the Dorothy Day Center in St. Paul last week.

The annual barbecue, held May 28 this year, is an effort by the Judicial Branch to reach out to the people it serves.

“It is an honor for us to be able to participate in this event,” said Court of Appeals Judge Jill Flaskamp Halbrooks, co-chair of the committee that organizes the event for the courts, in a press release. “We look forward to it each year. It is very rewarding to be able to reach out and provide a special meal for people in need.”

Cherry Hill Meat Company, provides 1,000 beef patties for the annual cookout. Ice cream parfaits are provided by Louis Henry and the Marion Street McDonald’s restaurant.

“Having the opportunity to talk with clients and share a sense of community are the highlights of the day. It’s wonderful working with the Dorothy Day Center and their great staff to provide this community service,” said Retired Judge Jim Randall.
