Doorknocking proves hazardous to Drake’s health

Mark Drake, a spokesman for the Minnesota Republican Party, suffered a slight setback this morning while knocking on doors in southern Minnesota for state Senate candidate Mike Parry.

Drake slipped on ice and fell flat on his back, according to reports from Michael Brodkorb, the party’s deputy director.

“He’s fine,” Brodkorb said. “They had some bad weather down there yesterday, but he’s totally fine.”

Drake was back knocking on doors within a few minutes, Brodkorb reported, who called politics “a very hazardous business these days.”

Parry, a Waseca businessman, is the GOP’s endorsed candidate for the Senate seat vacated earlier this month by Sen. Dick Day, R-Owatonna, who resigned to become a lobbyist. Parry’s opponents are DFLer Jason Engbrecht, a physics professor at St. Olaf College and a member of the Faribault School Board since 2008, and Waseca Mayor Roy Srp, who is running as a member of the Independence Party.

A special election is being held today.
