U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., has endorsed Republican Mike Parry to fill retiring state Sen. Dick Day’s seat.
Bachmann, whose congressional district doesn’t include Senate District 26 — the area that Parry seeks to represent — issued a statement this morning praising Parry.
“Mike is a strong fiscal conservative who will be a powerful voice for lower taxes, limited government and economic opportunity in St. Paul,” Bachmann said. ” … The people of Waseca, Steele and Rice counties will be well served by this steadfast champion of conservative values who will stand up to the big-spending, big-taxing liberals in the Legislature.”
A special election to fill Day’s seat is scheduled Jan. 26. Parry has two opponents: the DFL-endorsed candidate, Jason Engbrecht of Faribault, and Waseca Mayor Roy Srp, who is running under the Independence Party banner.
U.S. Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., has publicly endorsed Engbrecht, calling him a strong advocate for education.
Day resigned last month to become a lobbyist.
