The DFL Veterans Caucus has endorsed R.T. Rybak for governor. The veterans’ group cited Rybak’s leadership skills in announcing the decision.
“As Mayor of Minneapolis, Rybak oversees the city’s police force and the fire department,” said Trista Matascastillo, chair of the DFL Veterans Caucus, in a statement announcing the endorsement. “Immediately after being elected Mayor in 2001, Rybak received intensive training for emergency response, expertise that he used when responding to the collapse of the I-35 bridge in August 2007. Rybak has the experience and executive leadership to deploy the National Guard effectively.”
The veterans’ group is the second DFL caucus to endorse a candidate in the crowded gubernatorial field. Previously Stonewall DFL announced that it was supporting former House Minority Leader Matt Entenza.
