A series of public open houses to discuss the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s 2009 comprehensive statewide freight- and passenger-rail plan will be held in October.
The rail plan, mandated by the 2008 Minnesota Legislature, will provide guidance for statewide rail initiatives and investments and will make the state eligible for federal funding.
The second and final round of open houses will provide public input, which will help MnDOT develop a draft of the plan.
Each meeting will run from 5 to 7 p.m. The schedule is Oct. 6 at the MnDOT Office and Training Center in St. Cloud, 3725 12th St. N.; Oct. 7 at Rochester Community and Technical College’s Heintz Center, 1926 Collegeview Drive SE; Oct. 8 at the Red Wing Public Library; Oct. 14 at the St. Paul Union Depot, 214 E. Fourth St.; Oct. 15 at the Duluth Union Depot and Transportation Museum, 506 W. Michigan St.; Oct. 21 at Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Moorhead, 1900 28th Ave. S.; and Oct. 22 at the Best Western, 1111 Range St. in North Mankato.
