Larry Craig and the ACLU — Best Friends for Life?

In what can only be described as a case of very strange bedfellows, the American Civil Liberties Union has filed a brief supporting Idaho Republican Senator Larry Craig’s petition to withdraw his guilty plea.

The ACLU argues that “[c]onvicting someone of a crime on the basis of conduct which may not be made a crime is a manifest injustice if anything is.” The senator should be allowed to withdraw his plea to correct this injustice, the ACLU says.

  1. Since when has law enforcement not been allowed to use profiles and behaviour patterns as clues for drug dealers, prostitutes, and terrorists? Solicitation in Minnepolis airport was becoming an issue,( we also know about dangers of child seduction and pornography), and Minn police was legitimately looking out for decent citizens. If senator Craig had taken a lover in the stall with him than he may be entitled to privacy, not when he is soliciting from his stall and violating another’s privacy.
