Koenen wins special election in SD 20

Koenen won the seat with 54 percent of the vote Tuesday evening, beating out GOP candidate Gregg Kulberg by nearly 15 percentage points. Independent candidate Leon Greenslit garnered about 5 percent of the vote in the sprawling new Senate district, which covers Big Stone, Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Lincoln, Renville, Swift, and Yellow Medicine counties in western Minnesota.

Dayton sets April 10 special election to replace Kubly

Dayton announced the April 10 special election for Senate District 20 on Wednesday, the same day most activities at the state Capitol were paused to allow lawmakers to attend Kubly's funeral services in Granite Falls. If needed, a March 27 primary election will be held in the district, which includes Big Stone, Chippewa, Lac qui Palle, Lincoln, Renville, Swift and Yellow Medicine Counties.
