A federal agency says a Virginia-based defense contractor will pay $100,000 to settle allegations of racial discrimination at one of its Minnesota facilities.

The Associated Press reports that The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has reached a settlement with Alliant Techsystems Inc., or ATK.

The EEOC says a black woman applied for a technical-support position at ATK’s Eden Prairie location. The agency says a recruiter initially told her she’d gotten the job, but that she was later rejected in favor of a white man.

EEOC attorney John Hendrickson said it was clear ATK rejected her because of her skin color, not because of her skills.

As part of the settlement, ATK must train its entire staff on discrimination laws.
