The American Bar Association has a new leader — Stephen N. Zack of Miami. Zack will be the first Hispanic president of the ABA in its more than 130-year history.
A partner with Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP, Zack practices in the area of complex commercial litigation, emphasizing class actions, products liability cases and federal multi-district litigation. He was the first Hispanic American and youngest president of the Florida Bar. He has also served as president of the National Conference of Bar Presidents and as the chair of the ABA’s House of Delegates. He is a member of the ABA International Law Section and has served on the ABA Board of Governors.
In a recent interview with “American Lawyer,” Zack said that as ABA president he plans to develop a program for lawyers to teach civics classes to high school students. Other priorities include access to legal services, diversity in the legal profession and the struggle to prepare an adequate legal framework for addressing the fallout from natural or man-made disasters.
Zack received the gavel from outgoing president Carolyn Lamm yesterday. His official investiture as president begins at the close of the ABA Annual Meeting this afternoon.
