There a fascinating video up on the Star Tribune website right now in which the Stib interviews Jolyne Cross, the forewoman of the jury in the Tom Petters case. Cross’ remarks are thoughtful, complimentary to the lawyers involved and reaffirm the wisdom of the jury system. From the sound of it, these jurors did exactly what they are supposed to do. The heard the evidence, thought about it, reexamined the relevant parts and made darn sure they knew the legal principles they were supposed to apply to reach their conclusion. They didn’t try to guess what the sentence might be — they just did their job.

In a real nod to the lawyers in a complex, multi-billion-dollar Ponzi prosecution, Cross said the case was a lot more interesting to watch than she had anticipated. “They kept it interesting, the whole trial,” she told the Strib.
