This just in: We don’t know the Supreme Court’s decision in Coleman v. Franken. Somehow a rumor has started that the decision would be announced by the end of the month—MSNBC has said that’s what “we were led to believe.” Some people have assumed it will come on Thursday, right before the start of the holiday weekend. Everyone is looking for clues. A friend called to tell me he saw Justice Alan Page having lunch wearing a Hawaiian shirt and looking relaxed, for what that’s worth. I heard that Justice Lorie Gildea was repeatedly asked at the bar convention when the decision was coming down. As if. And Justice Paul Anderson, also attending the convention, said it would definitely be by the end of the year – but said he wasn’t saying which year.

On a slightly different note, DFL head Brian Melendez was carefully avoiding contact at the convention with anyone from the Supreme Court. Something about even the appearance of impropriety.
