Former Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Kathleen Blatz will receive an award from the National Governors Association next month to recognize her “distinguished service to state government,” the Political Animal (the Pioneer Press’ political blog) reports.
Blatz is a class act with a long history in state government that started with being elected to the Legislature at the age of 25. She also served as a Hennepin County District Court judge prior to her elevation to the state high court. She comes by the public service bug honestly. Her father, Jerome Blatz, also an attorney, represented Bloomington in the state Senate in the 1960s and 1970s.
