Dorsey’s managing partner Marianne Short made a brilliant, client-focused comment about moving lawyers into practice areas that are strongest. I believe she is saying it’s not about what we have to “sell” as lawyers, it is about how we can reposition our services to provide the highest level of value to our clients as they struggle to gain footing in this economy. It’s about making our legal services “must have” with clients, and now more than ever, it is about having open two-way conversations with our clients (and not billing them) about how the economy is impacting their day-to-day operations, so we can reposition our services to serve clients where they need legal expertise right now.
