While the recount judge’s panel is counting up, Minnesota Vikings fans are counting down — down, they hope, to zero, as in the number of tickets left for Sunday’s playoff game against Philadelphia. About 11,000 tickets to the game remain unsold, meaning that the game could be blacked out in most of Minnesota if the tickets aren’t sold by Thursday afternoon.

The Vikings seem to be learning a lesson about how the priorities of even their most loyal fans can shift during tough economic times — especially right on the heels of the holidays. Tickets to the game start at $30 and range up to $160. Barely half of the team’s season ticket holders have opted for playoff tickets.

Tickets to the game might be pricy, but at least the Vikings aren’t as cruel to their fans as some NFL teams: To name one, the Miami Dolphins (who are also in the playoffs) require season ticket holders  buy tickets to playoff games whether they want to or not.

Maybe there’s a law firm that had such a fantastic 2008 that they won’t mind ponying up a half-million or so for the remaining tickets.
