We’re going to go out on a limb and predict that the Minnesota Supreme Court won’t hand down a decision in Coleman v. Franken this week.

Why? Because a decent share of the state’s legal heavy hitters are in Duluth this week for the Minnesota State Bar Association convention, presumably including one or two representatives of the high court, if not necessarily any of the justices.

(Chief Justice Eric Magnuson will address the convention’s closing lunch on Friday, but of course he’s not in on the Coleman decision, having already served on a judicial panel related to the election recount.)

We can’t say for sure that the Supreme Court is short-handed today and tomorrow, but we do know that, to name one, Justice Paul Anderson is a reliable regular at the bar convention. It could be that the court is content to let their decision simmer while the legal community cools its heels in Duluth.
