What separates Faegre and Dorsey partners? This car

Interesting tidbit from the Strib’s Inside Track today. Dorsey & Whitney and Faegre & Benson both remain on the list of the nation’s top grossing firms. Faegre went up a few rungs (from 94th to 86th). Meanwhile, Dorsey stood pat at 76th on the list. Dorsey’s per partner compensation is $50K more than Faegre’s ($585K vs. $535K) the Strib reports.
While $50K may not seem like a huge differential at that level (a little less than 10 percent), you could get yourself a pretty nice 2009 BMW 5 series 535i sedan (see photo at top right) for that price. Of course that doesn’t include a lot of extras …
Alive, rich, but alas with no soul…A better picture may have been a photo of a legal aid attorney. That’s another thing $50k can buy.

Go back and check the Strib article. Not that it matters a great deal, but it says that Faegre “moved to 86th from 94th,” not the other way around. A small point, but it informs the rest of your analysis.

Thanks, Anon #2: I updated the post with the correction. Faegre actually went up a few spaces on the “Top 100,” not down a few spaces.
That said, I’ve always thought lists like this one are a bit silly because they place such an emphasis on money. Nobody seems interested in having a “Top 100″ of firms that lawyers love to work at …

Sadly, most legal aid salaries around here are well below 50k per year, I think.
