Britt Ackerman is a soon-to-be-sixth-year associate extraordinaire with the firm of Hvistendahl, Moersch, Dorsey & Hahn, P.A., in Northfield, Minnesota. She graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in 2004 and from Carleton College in 2000 where she was a columnist and copy editor for The Carletonian, my college’s newspaper. Britt is experienced in the areas of criminal defense and family law, and enjoys litigating all manner of cases, including dabbling in appellate work. Britt is a self-proclaimed Grammar Nazi, and is mortified when her typos slip into print. If she makes an egregious error, she won’t ask for your forgiveness, as there are typos in every printed paper she’s ever read. Feel free to email her at britt.ackerman@gmail.com.”

I am the Membership Outreach Manager at the Minnesota State Bar Association.
I spend my non-working hours trying to keep up with my 2 year old son, watching reality TV, and cooking. I was in a car accident on the way to my last day of High School. I had a broken vertebra in my neck and was so medicated that I don’t remember my graduation. I would like to help the readers make the most of all their Bar Association has to offer. I also want to be sure that the Bar Association is staying current on the issues facing this group and can have solutions and resources available.

I was practically deported from Australia, due to an annoying glitch in my VISA, which coincidentally is why I ended up enrolling in Law School. Funny how that happened. Oh, and I used to be really shy, no one believes me when I say that.

In my litigation practice, I have handled a variety of disputes, including claims involving the Truth in Lending Act and other lending regulations, wrongful foreclosure and equitable mortgage claims, and mechanics’ liens. I have experience with every phase of litigation, from discovery and motion practice through mediation and trial, and at the appellate level.
I’m an avid crocheter. I love to make hats, toys, and baby blankets. I have tried to learn to knit a few times because I love hand knit socks more than anything, but I just can’t do it. I started canning and preserving last summer, and can’t wait to make strawberry jam. I’m also looking for a good garlicky dill pickle recipe, if anyone’s got one that they’re willing to share.
