There once was a young attorney, fresh out of law school and desperate to find a job as the due dates of loan repayment crept uncomfortably close. This once jovial young woman became a career-hunting fembot, whose only gratification, it seemed, could come from landing a paycheck and benefits. Then, when the young woman developed a persistent tummy ache, she refused to go to the doctor citing lack of medical insurance. The story ends with the young fembot spending most of the holidays in the hospital with appendicitis. Take her experience as a cautionary tale. Despite being inundated with depressing news and stats regarding the employment situation for new attorneys, remember the words of Janis Joplin: “Don’t compromise yourself. You are all you’ve got.”

So, as you continue on your hunt, don’t forget to stop along the way to meet your friends for some laughs, exercise, call your grandma, and listen to your body. Treat your investment well. And if you have some downtime, self-improve.
