You’ve probably been to or read about one of the Stein Conversations at the University of Minnesota Law School, most recently with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
The Stein Conversations are one of the contributions of Professor Robert Stein, who has received the 2017 University of Minnesota President’s Award for Outstanding Service.
The award was established in 1997 to recognize faculty and staff members who have provided exceptional service to the University, its schools, colleges, departments, and service units. Such service must have gone well beyond the regular duties of a faculty or staff member, and demonstrate unusual commitment to the university community. Each year, approximately 12 individuals are chosen to receive the award.
Stein’s contributions to the U and the legal profession are legendary. He has served as a faculty member for more than 40 years (1964 to 1994, 2006 to the present), as well as associate dean (1976-77) and dean (1979-94) of the Law School. Additionally, he has served the university as vice president for administration and planning (1977-80) and as a member or chair of a number of university committees, task forces, and advisory groups.
