Judge James Florey of the 6th Judicial District will represent the 8th Congressional District in the Minnesota Court of Appeals, Gov. Mark Dayton announced April 8. Florey will replace Judge Lawrence Stauber who will retire at the end of May.
Florey has been a District Court judge for 18 years and served as chief judge from 2005 to 2012 and assistant chief judge from 2004 to 2006. Prior to his appointment, he was an assistant St. Louis County attorney for 15 years and a staff attorney at Legal Aid Service of Northeastern Minnesota. Florey earned his B.A. from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and his J.D. from Mitchell Hamline School of Law.
