A time and a place for happy hours

“And then there are the frequent, unscheduled happy hours.”

Not that they ever get out of hand, but the in-house amenities at Halunen Law do lend themselves to bursts of unplanned socialization and conviviality.

The task of organizing the office for various in-house happy hour functions falls on the shoulders of Kerry Spolun-D’Amato, office coordinator (officially) and social director (unofficially). Thanks to a recent office makeover, the office boasts an abundance of creature-comfortable lounge space for after-hour wind-downs and workday-in-process stress relief breaks. There’s a regulation-size pool table for the cue-stick set; a pair of restaurant-grade microwave ovens, and a fully-stocked bar with lots of local brand-name appeal: Tattersall vodka, J. Carver bourbon and rye, Du Nord Fitzgerald gin, Alexis Bailey ice wine.

The firm regularly invites local mixologists of distinction to stop by and share their knowledge about cocktail-making and cocktail culture.

The pool table is open for play all day long. Bouncing a cue ball around for a few minutes has proven to be effective therapy for the relief of lawyerly writer’s block, according to Spolun-D’Amato.

Happy hours help the firm promote a culture of camaraderie and community – and as an office perk, they help in the employee recruitment process too, says Clayton Haluen.
