How much can be accomplished in a single year? Just ask Dan Gruber.
As marketing director in a firm with eight offices around the world, Gruber has redesigned and launched a new firm website, organized numerous educational events for clients, leveraged relationships with legal publications to publish more than 50 articles, trained attorneys on marketing initiatives, and organized two major client social events. And those are only recent accomplishments.
“His level of dedication, support, and perseverance to make Zelle Hofmann a success is second to none,” said attorney Kate Bischoff. “He’s provided [me] a level of business development support I have not encountered at any other firm. His support has allowed me to prosper and innovate how I reach clients. I could not do it without him.”
Gruber’s career in legal marketing started about 10 years ago in San Diego. While working with a legal client, he discovered a love for helping attorneys on marketing and business development strategies. In his current role, he embraces the variety of his role.
“My job is quite a ride,” he said. “I’m often a webmaster, ad designer, public relations manager, writer, event planner, social media specialist and business development coach, all in one day. That’s a big part of why I love what I do; I get to be creative and analytical, often at the same time.”
Gruber especially enjoys how marketing and business development intersect, creating opportunities to communicate the firm’s strengths, while assisting attorneys in building more one-on-one relationships with clients. He is constantly on the lookout for ways to raise the profile of the firm and support attorneys in their communications efforts.
“If we’re pitching a client or planning a marketing event, I always ask about the objective,” he said. “By knowing that upfront, our marketing and business development efforts are smarter and strategic.”
