The Minnesota House DFL caucus elected State Representative Paul Thissen as House Minority Leader-designate last night.
Thissen served as the Speaker of the House for the 2013 session. The Republican Party will be in the majority in the House when the Legislature convenes next year. He was first elected in 2002 and represents South Minneapolis and Richfield.
In addition to his legislative work, Thissen is a partner at Lindquist & Vennum in the firm’s Health Law Practice Group.
In a prepared statement following his election Thissen said he was proud of his party’s achievements over the past two years.
“Moving forward, the House DFL caucus will fight to improve economic security and opportunity for working families in every region of our state. We will work to defend the progress we’ve made to grow the middle class, honestly balance our budget, and invest in our state’s future. And we will hold Republicans accountable to the promises they made on the campaign trail to get past government gridlock and deliver results for the betterment of all Minnesotans.”
