Republican Attorney General hopeful Scott Newman has hired State Sen. Dave Thompson, R-Lakeville, to manage his campaign. Newman, a state senator from Hutchinson, cited Thompson’s experience in state politics and media campaigns in his announcement. Newman is challenging Attorney General Lori Swanson.

“We are going to try to create a strong presence around the state by getting Scott out to different locations to talk to voters and the media. We want to raise some issues where we believe the current Attorney General has not been as strong as she could be supporting citizens of the state,” Thompson said.

Thompson replaces Tony Post, a former campaign aide for former U.S. Congressman Chip Cravaack, who had been announced as Newman’s campaign manager in May.

Thompson said he could not comment on Post’s departure from the Newman campaign because he was “brought on after that relationship ended.”
