Daniel A. Benson and Michael D. Fritz have beeen appointed to fill open judgeships in the 7th Judicial District, Gov. Mark Dayton announced Wednesday.
Benson will replace Judge Peter Irvine and Fritz will replace Judge Lisa Borgen. Benson will be chambered in Long Prairie and Fritz will be chambered in Moorhead. The Seventh Judicial District includes Becker, Benton, Clay, Douglas, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Otter Tail, Stearns, Todd and Wadena counties.
In a prepared statement, Dayton said he was “confident” the appointees would serve the Seventh district with “distinction.”
“Both Mr. Benson and Mr. Fritz have extensive legal experience and demonstrated commitments to public service,” Dayton said.
Benson does criminal defense work for Benson Law Office and is a MSBA board-certified criminal law specialist. He has been a managing attorney with the public defender’s office and an Assistant Stearns County Attorney.
Fritz is the Becker County Attorney. He was formerly a partner with Hummel, Sinclair, Evans, Hunt, Heisler and Fritz. He is on the Becker County Child Abuse Prevention Council and was once the president of the Becker County Bar Association.
