You probably remember Tim Scannell.
He is the Cook County Attorney who made headlines last year when he was shot and wounded by a man he had prosecuted in a Grand Marais courtroom.
Scannell is in the news again, but not how he would like.
Scannell was ordered to stay away from a 17-year-old girl he says he fell in love with. Her parents sought the restraining order.
Scannell is a long time friend of the family but recently started texting, calling and sending packages to the girl. The parents said the two have kissed and touched, but “nothing illegal.”
His attorney, Joe Tamburino, said Scannell will abide by the restraining order and that he “trusts that this matter will resolve quickly.” He said Scannell has not committed a crime in the relationship.
In a bizarre twist the man Scannell prosecuted that day last winter was convicted of third degree sexual assault. He was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
Just last week the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office honored two attorneys that were in the courtroom the day of the shooting for helping to stop the gunman and giving medical aid to Scannell while waiting for help to arrive.
