Leonard Weiler appointed to bench in the 7th

Gov. Mark Dayton announced the appointment of Leonard A. Weiler as a District Court judge in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District. Weiler will replace the Honorable Skipper J. Pearson who retired earlier this year. This seat will be chambered in Milaca in Mille Lacs County.

Weiler works as the Managing Attorney for the Seventh Judicial District Public Defender’s office where he manages public defender operations within Stearns County.

He previously managed 25 public defenders in Stearns, Morrison, Benton, Mille Lacs and Douglas counties. Weiler also served as an Assistant District Public Defender and was the head law clerk and investigator for the Ramsey County Public Defender’s office. Weiler received a B.A. in criminal justice and political science from Moorhead State University in 1985, and a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in 1991.

He is a member of the Stearns County Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee as well as the Family Violence and Sexual Assault Council Criminal Subcommittee. He also served as one of the original team member participants which created the Stearns County Drug Court and the Domestic Violence Court.

Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District consists of Becker, Benton, Clay, Douglas, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Otter Tail, Stearns, Todd and Wadena counties.
