The Amicus Society celebrated its members at a reception at the Judicial Center on Thursday, Aug. 16 –and included a call for more action to educate the public and the Legislature about court funding needs. Members of Amicus are asked to donate five hours a year to build an extensive grass roots public education/lobbying campaign by speaking or writing on funding issues. “We’ve developed a plan and are asking you to implement it,” said co-chair Tom Fraser.
To participate, go to 1000supporters.org. That’s step one.
Step two: Between now and election day, speak to five community leaders about the importance of the justice system, and ask to add their e-mail addresses to a subscriber list about the justice system.
“This is our hour,” said Chief Justice Lorie Gildea. “We’ve got to get the general public involved.”
