Invalid waiver of counsel requires reversal (access required)

An amended charge that doubles the maximum possible punishment terminates an accused’s prior waiver of counsel. If the accused still wants to proceed without counsel, the accused needs to renew his or her waiver of the constitutional right of counsel.
