Magistrate judge sought in Duluth

Due to the upcoming retirement of U.S. Magistrate Judge Raymond Erickson on Aug. 27, 2010, the District of Minnesota is seeking applicants for a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Duluth.
The successful candidate will chamber in Duluth, but will have assignment of cases throughout the district, including the Twin Cities and Fergus Falls.
A merit selection panel comprising attorneys and members of the community will review applications for the position and recommend to the judges of the U.S. District Court the persons it considers best qualified to fill the position. The court will interview the finalists and make the appointment.
The salary of the position is $160,080 per year. The term of office is eight years, and incumbents may be reappointed to successive terms. Applications are invited from individuals who meet the following qualifications:
• At least five years membership in the bar of the highest court of a state;
• Active practice of law for at least five years;
• Competent to perform all the duties of the office as specified in 28 U.S.C. 636;
• Be less than 70 years old; and
• Not related to a judge of the U.S. District Court.
The official application is available on the court’s website at www.mnd.uscourts.gov. The original complete application and nine copies must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Feb. 26, 2010. Completed applications may not be e-mailed and disks will not be accepted.
